What happens when a managing director, an air traffic engineer, a data scientist, a recent graduate, a fund manager and a police officer enter the same classroom? AITSPIN began finding out today.

The AIT School of Professional Intelligence (AITSPIN) welcomed its first cohort of 50 learners on 17 August, bringing together professionals from different industries, countries and stages of their careers. The group includes 22 students in the MSc (Professional) in Professional Intelligence and 28 participants in the Executive AI Certificate. They represent 10 nationalities, while more than half, 27 of the 50, are sponsored by their employers.


The range within the cohort is striking. The median age of the Master’s group is 36, while that of the Certificate group is 49. The youngest learner is 22; the oldest is 76.

Similarly, their professional backgrounds are equally varied. There are engineers, managers, entrepreneurs, educators, researchers, technology specialists and public-sector professionals. The Batch Book includes people working in aviation, shipping, energy, finance, water management, construction, education, policing and digital transformation.


Two pathways, One classroom


The cohort has entered AITSPIN through two different pathways. The Professional Master’s is aimed at professionals seeking deeper capability and a graduate qualification. The Executive AI Certificate offers a shorter university-level route for professionals who want to strengthen their ability to work with AI without necessarily pursuing another degree.


Many in the Certificate group are already highly qualified and well established professionally. They are returning to learning not because their earlier education has lost its value, but because the world in which they use that education is changing.


Employers are also joining the journey


The strong employer presence in the first cohort is another notable feature. Seven organisations are sponsoring learners, with several sending groups rather than individuals. Regional Container Lines has eight participants, Thai Pipe Industry six, Bangchak five and AEROTHAI four. These learners hope to eventually become the people who help translate AI from a promising technology into something useful within their own organisations.


The first fifty


The inaugural fifty are therefore more than AITSPIN’s first intake. They are its founding learning community.

For Sachindra Amithodana Samarawickrama, an engineer from Sri Lanka , joining AITSPIN marks the beginning of a new chapter. “I am excited to explore how technology, AI and human judgment can come together to make a meaningful difference,” he said. “I am also looking forward to learning from new people, sharing experiences and gaining fresh perspectives along the way.” Their AITSPIN journey began today, 17 August 2026, with the School’s inaugural Orientation Programme. “AITSPIN has designed the programme. Its first fifty will help define the school,” remarked Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Executive Director of AITSPIN.
